Pull Up A Chair!

GEORGE has been busy busy making homes beautiful. We apologize for the delay in sharing and we promise to have some extra good tips for you! We've been giving a lot of consideration to the importance of seating. Seating is essential! Especially in the summertime when you're doing lots of entertaining and you need a place where everybody can sit together...

Keep in mind that unless it's family, or really long, 2 people tend to sit on a sofa. It is a good idea to have chairs flanking the sofa and/or chairs/ottomans positioned across from the sofa.

Ottomans are also great in that they are flexible, are low to the ground (so they appear to take up less space when space is tight) and they add interest. They also look great up against a wall or under a table.

Whether your furniture is floating in the center of the room or up against the walls, it is a good idea to create options & different grouping of chairs and tables, for both you to enjoy while you are alone and while you are opening up your home to others.

We also love to add kid-friendly seats like these over-sized cushions when there are tots in the picture... Outdoor fabrics or laminated fabrics work especially well for durability and less worry.

West Elm has some super darling poufs that would also work well... although we must warn you that it is firmer than it is soft.

And we are in LOVE with the rattan pouf... (they are sturdy enough to sit on!) Urban Outfitters is carrying this one for $88.00 and Ikea carries a smaller version that is under $30!

And in addition to having enough seating... it is ideal to have seating that is the right size for your space. These super slim, gorgeous wooden and iron side chairs, and the pedestal Saarinen table with a Carrera marble top create a lovely place to dine or play a game of cards while hardly taking up any space visually.

In this case, placing a sexy wing chair (Donghia) in a narrow space, draws the eye upward towards the bookshelf, or maybe a fireplace mantle beyond...

And another (in Monique Lhuillier's beautiful sitting room)...

Look hard at your space and try to identify the strengths and weaknesses...sometimes the right piece of furniture is so much more than just the style that you thought you liked. Happy August from GEORGE Interior Design!
